The Albert E. Erickson Company has been automating Bodine Machines for over 30 years. We currently have a bank of automated machines in operation on our factory floor.
The decision to invest in automation is based on a few simple questions:
- Are you always behind on the production that you need?
- How much do you spend in labor to load the parts into the machine per year?
- Does your machine run 40 hours a week or more on the same product or product line?
- If you answered "yes" to these or other similar questions, then it is time to consider automating your Bodine machine.
The cost of the operator to run this machine is high. Usually, the most talented operator is put on the jobs which require the highest production. This means that you pay the most to meet your production needs. By automating the part transfer and inspection system, you can assign this operator to other more challenging tasks or consider downsizing.
The cost of the vibratory system, transfer, and inspection system involved in the automation process can be recovered in as little as two years. You also have the added advantage of increasing production since most auto feed systems allow you to run at the maximum allowable speed, not the operator's ability or attendance.
Generally, automatic machines can be grouped together into banks of machines with one attendant watching three or more machines. Automatic machines can also become a part of a production "cell" where the primary, secondary, and final assembly operations are grouped together and run with a minimum of labor.
A. E. Erickson started business as a "job shop", and we still run high volume production on our floor. In order to compete with lower cost labor elsewhere, we have had to automate. We have unheralded expertise since we run the machines daily year in and year out...just like you!
We have one operator tending up to six machines and he still has time to help in the machine rebuilding process.
